Privacy Policy

Vol. I · No. 1Est. Sydney

Last updated: 28 July 2026

The Taste Profile ("we", "us", "our" or "the publication") is an independent Sydney coffee journal published online at this website. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, hold, and disclose personal information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) contained in Schedule 1 of the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

1. The kinds of information we collect

We collect only the personal information reasonably necessary for the operation of an editorial directory. This may include:

  • Email addresses submitted through the Contact form.
  • Account details (name and email) when you register or log in to add or edit listings.
  • The content of messages and pitches you send to the editor.
  • Approximate location, only when you tap "Near me", used solely to sort nearby cafés and discarded immediately.
  • Limited analytics and device data collected by third-party services described below.

2. How we collect and hold it

We collect personal information directly from you when you fill in a form, register an account, or otherwise correspond with us. Some information is collected automatically via cookies and similar technologies — see section 4. We hold personal information on secure servers operated by our hosting and database providers. We do not store personal details on our own premise hardware.

3. How we use and disclose it

We use personal information to operate and improve the publication, to respond to your messages, to administer accounts, and to maintain the accuracy and integrity of the directory. We do not sell or rent personal information. We may share it with third-party service providers that process information on our behalf — such as hosting, email, and analytics — under terms that require them to handle it in line with the APPs. We may disclose information where required by law or to protect our rights.

4. Cookies, advertising & analytics

This website uses cookies and similar technologies, including through third-party advertising and analytics partners. Google, as a third-party vendor, may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to our site and other sites on the internet.

You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also learn more from the aboutads.info initiative, a self-regulatory programme for online behavioural advertising.

Read-only directory browsing — the pages you view and the listings you read — may be counted by these partners. No individual café listing is tied back to you personally beyond what these services record about your browser.

5. Access and correction

Under the APPs you have the right to request access to, and correction of, the personal information we hold about you. You can update your own account details from within the site, write to us through the Contact page, or email the editor to request a copy, correction, or deletion of your personal information. We will respond within a reasonable period, ordinarily within 30 days.

6. Security

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, modification, or disclosure. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is fully secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Complaints

If you believe we have mishandled your personal information, you may complain to us via the Contact page. We will investigate and respond. If you remain dissatisfied, you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by a revised "last updated" date at the top of this page.

9. Contact

Questions about this policy or the handling of personal information can be sent to the editor through the Contact page.
